What we build · Elevating a House
Lifting a House Off the Ground
Physically raising an existing house above the flood elevation. Specialist work, and sometimes the right answer.
The property, its age, and what you are contemplating. We will tell you whether it is a renovation or a rebuild before anybody draws anything.

It is a structural operation, not a renovation
Elevating a house means separating it from its foundation, lifting it on jacks, building a new foundation and setting it down. It is specialist work with real risk to the structure, and whether a particular house is a good candidate depends on its construction, its condition and its shape.
Elevation also changes everything the house connects to. Stairs, entry, driveway, terraces, pool surrounds, services and landscaping all sit at the old level and have to be rebuilt to meet the new one. The lift itself is frequently a smaller share of the cost than the work around it.
What decides whether it is viable
- The construction type and its condition.
- The shape and complexity of the house.
- What the new foundation and access would involve.
- What it does to how the house sits on the lot.
- How the cost compares with rebuilding.
Whether a house is a good candidate
Simple rectangular plans in sound condition lift well. Complex plans with multiple wings, level changes, attached structures or masonry in poor condition are harder, riskier and sometimes not viable at all.
Condition matters as much as geometry, because the structure has to hold together while it is unsupported and moving. That assessment comes before any cost comparison is meaningful.
How we handle it
- 01Assess whether elevation is a realistic route.
- 02Coordinate specialist house-lifting contractors.
- 03Build new foundations and reconnect services.
- 04Rebuild access, stairs and the ground-level condition.
- 05Document elevation for certification and insurance.
Compare elevation against rebuilding before committing. On an older house needing substantial work anyway, the two figures are frequently closer than people expect, and a rebuild delivers a house designed for how the owner actually lives.
Said plainly
Where we stop
We coordinate specialist house-lifting contractors rather than performing the lift ourselves. It is a distinct specialist trade and we will be clear about the boundary.
